Running Update (October 2024)

This week started the fourth and final phase of my training cycle. The previous phase went as planned, and I raced the Winship 5k. This phase has the Atlanta Track Club Grand Prix Cross Country 5k.

This past week started the fourth and final phase of Jack Daniel’s “Red” fitness plan.

The previous phase went as planned. I raced the Winship 5k.

These next few weeks will look something like this:

  1. Monday: 10 minutes Easy +4 Strides + 5 minutes I + 4 minutes jog + 3 minutes I + 2 minutes jog + 10 minutes Easy
  2. Tuesday: 30 minutes Easy + 8 Strides
  3. Wednesday: Monday: 10 minutes Easy + 2 miles T + 2 minutes rest + 10 minutes Easy
  4. Thursday: 30 minutes Easy + 8 Strides
  5. Friday: 30 minutes Easy + 8 Strides
  6. Saturday: 50 minutes Easy + 4 Strides

I find myself looking forward to wrapping up these fitness plans and starting a “real” training plan, peaking for a race. I took some time this week to try to be strategic about my strength training, too, in concert with my running cycle, so that it’s complementary, not a hindrance, to my running.

I’m racing the final Atlanta Track Club Grand Prix race this Wednesday, the Cross Country 5k. I plan to run it by feel instead of a target pace. I think I’ve run enough 5ks since my injuries to run by feel again.
