  • Hiyashi Chūka

Thursday I made the Hiyashi Chūka recipe from J. Kenji Lopez-Alt’s The Wok cookbook. It’s a cold ramen noodle dish topped with veggies and a salty-sweet sauce.

I liked it. Megan said it was “better than expected,” and, again, I’m taking that as approval. 4 stars ★★★★☆

  • A long corroded rod leaning against the exterior of a brick house.

I replaced our anode rod just yesterday. The first time I replaced it at this house (5 years ago), the one I removed was completely eaten away to the bare wire.

  • Two things about owning a home that no one told me:

    1. The filters in the hood vent over the range? They need to be cleaned somewhat regularly. Ours pop out and go in the dishwasher.

    2. The hot water tank has a rod in it that helps delay the rusting of the tank. It’s called an anode rod and should be replaced every 3 to 5 years. Doing so extends the life of the tank.

Finished Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant. It started slow and choppy, but picked up towards the end.

  • Letter to A Young Organizer

Action is a practice of hope. Put another way, hope is generated through action. ‘Doing’ allows us to derive experience and meaning - it is through doing that we experience feeling.…

So I wake up every single day and decide to practice hope.

I aspire to practice hope like Mariame Kaba.
