Fried Egg Toast has become one of my all-time favorite breakfasts and a go-to morning meal. I think and speak so highly of it, that I thought I'd share my version.
Ingredients:
- Bacon
- Bread
- Egg
- Butter
- Sriracha
- Cheddar
Directions
- Cook bacon in a pan.
- While bacon is cooking, toast bread.
- Once bacon is done cooking, move to a paper towel and fry egg in the bacon fat.
- After the bread is toasted, top with butter, a drizzle of sriracha, cheddar slices, and bacon.
- When the egg is fried to preferred doneness,[foot]I have found my preferred doneness is right when the yolk turns from a liquid to a solid. It has this deliciously moist and tender texture. It's also incredibly difficult to get right: a small amount of time too short and it's runny, a small amount of time too long and it's overdone. Perhaps it's the elusiveness of it that is so delicious.[/foot] place on top of the toast.
Enjoy with coffee, such as
The Lazy Man's Macchiato, or preferred breakfast beverage.
I make multiple versions of this sandwich depending on what's in the refrigerator. If I don't have bacon on hand, then I'll have it without bacon, or if I don't have cheddar, I'll have it with a different cheese or no cheese at all. This version, however, is the canonical and preferred version.
