August Running Update

An update on my current running training plan (which is not continuing as expected).

Plans have continued to derail since my last running update.

I had continued into phase 3 of Jack Daniel’s “White Starting Plan” just fine, except I was getting some consistent pain on the top outside of my knee. Running was fine, generally. If I noticed it at all, it was transient. But the rest of the time, it was just there.

So I finally used the referral from my doctor and scheduled some physical therapy. I’ve been twice now (tomorrow’s my next appointment). The PT assessed that my hip flexors are weak, so the plan is to strengthen those and my glutes to see if that takes the burden off of the smaller stabilizing muscles and alleviates the knee pain. I don’t know if it’s helping or not because…

Two Saturdays ago I sprained my ankle run(/walking) with friends, and I’ve been only walking and doing PT exercises since.

My plan is to not rush back on this ankle. When I do get back to run(/walk)ing, I'll probably ease back in with some weeks from phase 1 and 2 of the training plan before resuming phase 3.
