Saturday I ran the Winship 5k. This is my third year participating in this event and my second time participating in person.
Tomorrow is my peak race, the Atlanta Track Club Grand Prix Cross Country 5k, so the Winship fell squarely within my taper period. I usually have an abbreviated workout scheduled during my taper week, so I just did my workout during the race.
The Winship must be one of the largest races in the area. If it isn’t, then it at least feels full of people. So many people run it, and so many people have emotional connections as it’s a fundraiser for Emory’s Winship Cancer Institute. The vibe was celebratory.
I met up with some of my Saturday Run Family beforehand, but I think we all ran our own races. We regrouped after finishing and enjoyed the smorgasbord of post-race food.
I look forward to running it next year.
