I’ve streamlined my old fashioneds to be super unfussy. Here’s what I do these days:
- In a rocks glass, add a luxardo cherry, a bar spoonful of simple syrup, a few shakes of angostura bitters, and a few shakes of orange bitters.
- Add a block of ice.
- Add an ounce each of two different brown liquors. Ideally a bourbon and a rye, but I use whatever’s handy. Right now it’s a bourbon and a scotch.
- Stir for a good 45 seconds.
- Enjoy!
