The linked recipe is similar to Kenji’s but definitely different ratios of ingredients. Kenji’s is more of the oyster sauce and less of the soy sauce.
To be fair to Kenji regarding the pepper, he notes that the strong black pepper is his preference and also encourages the reader to compare his to the original and make whatever adaptations you want.
Last week I made J. Kenji Lopez-Alt’s Springfield-Style Cashew Chicken from his The Wok cookbook.
This fried chicken dish is different from the General Tso’s-based previous ones, and was disappointingly better without the sauce. 2 stars ★★☆☆☆
