I’m in the middle of this year’s landscaping project, and, as part of it, I created a personal database for searching native plants.

I found a native fern among logs set out for collection at a neighbor’s house, so I brought it home in hopes it will establish itself in a shady part of our landscape.
Things spotted on today’s hike on the Laurel Creek Trail at Arabia Mountain (as identified by iNaturalist): watersnake, changeable mantleslug, fan clubmoss, and common elephant’s-foot.
A few weeks ago we planted some nodding onions a neighbor was giving away. They’ve started blooming!
Libraries are awesome because you can start with one little question about caring for houseplants and end up with a pile of books on the subject.
